Abstract

This study attempts to explore the demographic and economic determinants of poverty in Multan district by using the data of 300 households collected through random sampling technique. Ordinary least square method has been used. The study uses four poverty indices FGT, Sen Index, Sen-Shorrocks-Thon index, and Watts index to measure poverty. The findings reveal that the incidence, depth, and severity of poverty are higher in rural areas than that in urban areas of Multan district. Moreover, it is inferred that household size, physical disability, mental illness, migration, household head occupation, own house, remittances, and education have a significant impact on poverty.
